This announcement clarifies the English competence standard of graduate students, Mahidol University, in accordance with an announcement of the Ministry of Education entitled "Methods of Graduate Program Standards Management B.E. 2548" and the Academic Regulations of Graduate Studies B.E. 2552, which states that all graduate programs have to place an importance on English language and ensure the standards and quality of graduate studies at Mahidol University in accordance with the regulations of the Office of the Higher Education Commission.

The Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies with a resolution of the 2nd meeting of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Committee, on the 23rd December B.E. 2552, announced the English competence standard required of graduate students, Mahidol University, as follows.
  1. This announcement applies to all graduate students who choose English as their optional foreign language under the Mahidol University Academic Regulations of Graduate Studies B.E. 2552.

  2. The following announcements are annulled :
    1. The announcement of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, whose subject was the English Competence Standard of Graduate Students B.E. 2548, announced on 24 March B.E. 2548
    2. The announcement of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, whose subject was the English Competence Standard of Graduate Students B.E. 2548 (Issue 2), announced on 13 September B.E. 2548
    3. The announcement of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, whose subject was the English Competence Standard of Graduate Students B.E. 2550, announced on 23 April B.E. 2550

  3. English competence standard and English competence assessment criteria of doctoral degree students
    All doctoral degree students must have :
    3.1 a TOEFL Paper-based score with a minimum of 500; or
    3.2 a TOEFL Computer-based score with a minimum of 173; or
    3.3 a TOEFL Internet-based score with a minimum of 61; or
    3.4 a TOEFL-ITP score with a minimum of 500, attained from a test are administered by one of the following institutes.
      3.4.1. The Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University; or
      3.4.2. A testing center approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University
    3.5 an IELTS score with a minimum of 5.

    All doctoral degree students must achieve the required score before taking a Qualifying Examination that must be taken during the study period in the doctoral program.

  4. English competence standard and English competence assessment criteria for master's degree students
    Thai programs

    Thai programs
    All Master's degree students must have:
    4.1 a TOEFL Paper-based score with a minimum of 470; or
    4.2 a TOEFL Computer-based score with a minimum of 150; or
    4.3 a TOEFL Internet-based score with a minimum of 52; or
    4.4 a TOEFL-ITP score with a minimum of 500, attained from a test are administered by one of the following institutes.
      4.4.1 The Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University; or
      4.4.2 A testing center approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University
    4.5 an IELTS score with a minimum of 4.5; or
    4.6 an MU-Test (Mahidol University Test) score, as administered by The Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, with a minimum of 40.

    International programs
    All Master's degree students (International Programs) must have;
    4.1 a TOEFL Paper-based score with a minimum of 480; or
    4.2 a TOEFL Computer-based score with a minimum of 157; or
    4.3 a TOEFL Internet-based score with a minimum of 54; or
    4.4 a TOEFL-ITP score with a minimum of 470, whose tests are administered by the institutes as follows.
      4.4.1 The Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University;
      4.4.2 The testing centers that are approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University
    4.5 an IELTS score with a minimum of 4.5; or
    4.6 an MU-Test (Mahidol University Test) score, as administered by The Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, with a minimum of 45.

  5. English competence standard and English competence assessment criteria for diploma degree students, and higher diploma program students

    All diploma degree students, and higher diploma program students must achieve an MU-Test (Mahidol University Test) score with a minimum of 35.

  6. Doctoral degree students, master's degree students, diploma degree students, and higher diploma program students who do not have any of the English scores specified above must complete the following prior to taking a Qualifying Examination.
    6.1 Take an English Proficiency Examination, administered by the Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University; and
    6.2 Register and pass the English courses offered by the Language Center, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, as credit student.

    The registration regulations shall be in accordance with the announcements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Said announcements detailing the English course requirements will be made prior registration, at the beginning of every semester.

  7. Any cases that are NOT inclusive of the criteria above shall be under the consideration of the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Remark:
  1. The Mahidol University's Academic Regulations of Graduate Studies B.E. 2552 states that all graduate students must pass the English competence standard of graduate Students, Mahidol University before graduation.
  2. This announcement applies to the graduate students who choose only English as their optional foreign language, and applies to upon those who graduate from the academic year of B.E. 2551-2552 onwards.
