Rationale

The Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the graduate programs within faculties, institutes, and colleges in Mahidol University, recognizes the importance of providing educational opportunities at graduate level to support national development. Hence, the Faculty of Graduate Studies has initiated “The 60th Year Supreme Reign of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Scholarship” to encourage and support students in need, with excellent academic performance, who wish to study for Master's and Doctorate degrees at the Mahidol University. The main aim fo the scholarship is to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne in 2006.

  2 Objectives
2.1

To honor His Majesty the King as the longest reigning monarch in the world by establishing a trust fund entitled “The 60th Year Supreme Reign of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Fund” for graduate students.  The scholarship serves to promote the awareness of the graduate students and the general public on His Majesty’s development endeavors

To do good deeds by providing educational opportunities in order to dedicate merit to His Majesty the King.
   
2.3

To provide support to students with excellent academic performance and potential to study for Master's and Doctorate degrees at Mahidol University, and promote the development of a new generation of human resources.

   
2.4

To support the national policy to increase the number of Master’s and Doctorate degree graduates in order to increase the number of experts and researchers in Thailand.


  3 Qualifications of Applicants for the Scholarship
3.1

Applicants must be incoming graduate students in academic year 2013 who wish to pursue a Master’s or Doctorate degree in the Thai or international programs, within the faculties, institutes and colleges of Mahidol University that have agreed to participate in the scholarship provision.  The list of participating programs appears at the end of this announcement.

   
3.2

For the Master’s degree level scholarship, applicants must have completed a Bachelor degree with honors (a cumulative GPA > 3.25), or are studying in the final semester of undergraduate study with a cumulative GPA > 3.25 (average until the first semester of the current academic year) and are set to complete their studies before the beginning of the academic year 2014 at Mahidol University.

   
3.3
For the Doctorate degree level scholarship, applicants must have completed a Master’s degree, or are set to complete a Master’s degree before admission to the Doctorate level at Mahidol University at the beginning of the academic year 2014.  The applicants must also have the following qualifications.
 
3.3.1

Have a cumulative GPA > 3.50.  A special consideration will be given to those who have published in journals that appear in the international database. (Relevant documentation must be submitted).

3.3.2

A TOEFL Computer based score of 173 or above, or a TOEFL Internet based score of 61 or above, or a score of TOEFL- ITP arranged by the Language Center, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University of 500 or above, or an IELTS score of 5.5 or above.

   
3.4

For undergraduate students who want to apply for a Doctorate degree, applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree, or are set to complete the study in the academic year 2014. They must have a cumulative GPA > 3.50.

   
3.5

Applicants for both the Master’s and Doctorate degree scholarship must have passed the admission examination organized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University for enrolling in the first semester of academic year 2014.  Applicants can submit an application form directly to their respective program prior to or on the day they are interviewed by the program.


  4 Inclusion and duration of the scholarship

          Type of scholarship
          Scholarship Type I:
Course/donor funds from other agencies to support school fees 9,400. - Per year

  1. Doctorate degree level          For a period of three years.
  2. Master’s degree level             For a period of two years.

Course /donor funds from other agencies to support the cost of registering a thesis.
          - Doctorate degree level           No more than 25,200. - Per capita.
          - Master’s degree level             No more than 8,400. - Per capita.
          The Program and the Graduate School. Are willing to pay the cost of enrollment. For the course / field of study in which student belongs.
Other courses, excepting the cost of the course, the fee includes fees for field studies special equipment, and the research for the thesis.
Scholarship Type II: The scholarship recipient will have graduate tuition fees wowed for the courses for the student’s degree program /Work-Site Study Fee / Equipment and           Facilities Fee and Research Supplies Fee 
Scholarship Type III: The scholarship recipient will have graduate tuition fees wowed for the courses under the student’s degree program only.
          Duration of the scholarship
Doctorate degree level.  The scholarship will be provided for a period not exceeding 3 years.

          Master’s degree level.  The scholarship will be provided for a period not exceeding 2 years.

  5 Number of scholarships
 

The total number of scholarships will not exceed 60 scholarships.

  6 Application
6.1

Students can obtain an application from at the participating programs and submit the application through the Program Committee to the Student Services Section, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Salaya or any of the Branch Offices of the Faculty of Graduate Studies on or before 31th March 2014.

   
6.2
The Chair of the respective Program Committees is responsible for the consideration of nominating applicants who have successfully passed the admission process and are qualified according to the requirements of the scholarship.

  7 Required documentation

Students wishing to apply for the scholarship should obtain the application form from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University and attach the following documents:

Master’s degrees

Doctoral degrees

- A copy of identification card
- A copy of the academic record/transcript
- A copy of the diploma
- A copy of the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ English Prophecy Examination result score (MU Test)

- A copy of identification card
- A copy of the academic record/transcript
- A copy of the diploma
- A copy of the result Examination of TOEFL or IELTS
- Other documents for consideration (such as publications, etc.)

   

  8

Process of selection and consideration

8.1

Applications, and nomination of applicants, must be approved by the Chair of the Program Committee

   
8.2

The Faculty of Graduate Studies shall appoint the 60th Year Supreme Reign of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Scholarship Committee, chaired by the Dean of the Faculty to consider the allocation of the scholarship in each category. The Committee members shall consist of Deputy Deans and invited experts.

In consideration, regarding the number of scholarships to be awarded each year and the selection of the awardees, the decision of the Faculty of Graduate Studies is final, without any appeal.

   

  9 Conditions of scholarship
The Faculty of Graduate Studies shall proceed to sign a scholarship acceptance agreement with the selected students and the scholarship shall begin in the first semester of the academic year.

  10 Termination of the scholarship
10.1

At the end of the agreed scholarship period.

 

 

10.2

The scholarship recipient renounces the scholarship.

   
10.3

The scholarship recipient is dismissed, or resigns as a student, or takes a leave of absence without good reasons.

   
10.4

The recipient is involved in any misconduct or disciplinary actions according to the regulations of Mahidol University and/or the program/ faculty/ college to which the scholarship recipient belongs.

   
10.5

The Chair of the Program to which the scholarship recipient belongs, requests for the suspension of the scholarship.

   
10.6

The scholarship recipient exhibits low academic performance as follows:

 
  • At the doctoral level:  GPA of less than 3.50

  • At the master’s level:  GPA of less than 3.25

10.7
      Results of course evaluation for a registered course is either a C or U

Announcing the results of the awarding of scholarships

The Faculty of Graduate Studies will announce the results of the scholarship allocation in the last week of April at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Building, all Branch Offices and at www.grad.mahidol.ac.th.
