Subject Scholarship to Promote Master and Doctoral Students’ Competency For International Academic Presentations, Fiscal Year 2013

The Faculty of Graduate Studies aims to provide scholarships for our master and doctoral students in presenting their own academic research in an international presentation. The application procedure and selection criteria for Fiscal Year 2013, are as follows:


  1 Qualifications
  1.1
. An applicant must be a master or doctoral student of Mahidol University. He/she must have been invited to present his/her research in an international academic conference/seminar while he/she is studying or, if already graduated, the date of the presentation must be no more than one year after the date of graduation.    
  1.2
An applicant who is a master student must be studying in Plan A only. His/her thesis proposal must have already passed and the thesis committee must have been officially appointed. An applicant who is a doctoral student needs to pass the Qualifying Examination, and must not be a student under the Royal Golden Jubilee Scholarship (RGJ).
  1.3
An applicant must not have previously received this scholarship from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University to present his/her research in the 2 prior fiscal years (20011-2012).
  1.4

The name of the applicant has to be listed first in the presentation abstract. Also, the name of the University must be written after the names of the presenters. Moreover, the applicant’s presentation must prominently display the Mahidol University emblem (in both oral and poster presentations).

  1.5

If an applicant has received any scholarship or scholarships from other financial sources for this presentation, he/she must specify all scholarship titles in the application form for the committee’s consideration.

  1.6
If the Faculty of Graduate Studies later finds that an applicant cannot fulfill all stated qualifications, the scholarship can be terminated and the Faculty has the right to demand reimbursement from the applicant.    


  2 Types of Scholarship Support
Support for an international academic presentation.


  3 Financial Value of the Scholarship
  3.1
The maximum values of the scholarship can be classified according to the presentation locations:
 

- Asia                       up to 15,000 – 30,000 for each
- Australia               up to 30,000 - 35,000 for each
- Europe                  up to 45,000 for each
- Africa                    up to 50,000 for each
- America                up to 50,000 for each



  4 Application Submission Periods
  4.1
The deadline for application submission is on the fifteenth of every month. The results will be announced in the last week of the month of the application submission.  
  4.2

If an applicant has been given very short notice of his/her acceptance for participation in the conference and cannot submit the application before the date stated in 4.1, he/she must specify the reasons. Nonetheless, the decision depends on the consideration of the Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

  4.3

The student cannot apply for the grant to receive a refund for a conference/seminar that he/she has already attended.

  5 Application Documents
  5.1

5.1. The seminar/conference acceptance letter for the presentation (Please specify presentation type);

  5.2
A copy of the applicant’s presentation abstract (the name of the applicant must be listed first) and other presentation documents;
  5.3

Schedule and details of the seminar/conference;

  5.4
A document summarizing the expenses such as air tickets (Please specify the flight routes), registration fee, accommodation, etc;
  5.5
Documents showing that this applicant has also been supported by other scholarships (where applicable);
  5.6 Registration documents (where applicable); and
  5.7
Other related documents (where applicable).



  6 Scholarship Committee
  6.1 Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Chair
  6.2 Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Committee
  6.3 Head of the Student Services Section, the Faculty of Graduate Studies Secretary


  7 Selection Criteria
  7.1

. An applicant must receive an acceptance letter for his/her presentation.

  -
If the seminar/conference is open for both oral and poster presentations, the oral presentation of an applicant will have a higher possibility of being supported than a poster presentation.   
  -
In the case of an international conference that is open only for poster presentations, the possibility for receiving the scholarship is equal to that of the oral presentation.  
  7.2

An applicant must submit the application before the deadline either to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Salaya or to any branch of the Office of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The Faculty will consider the dates when the application has been received. 

  7.3
If there are many applicants and the number of scholarships is limited, the values of the scholarships might be lower than the stated amount.
  7.4
The Faculty may set other criteria when considering an applicant’s application; for instance, that an applicant receives partial financial support from the presentation organizers, that the research that he/she wants to present has been published in the year of application or that the applicant has received a publication acceptance letter from a publisher. 


  8 The Procedure for the Successful Applicant
  10.1
A successful applicant must proceed to receive the payment within 20 days. Otherwise, the scholarship will be canceled.
  10.2
If the traveling schedule has been postponed, the student must notify the Faculty of Graduate Studies as soon as possible.
  10.3
The student must submit the GR.SS 11.2 form to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for the presentation report within 15 days of returning to the country.
  10.4
The student must submit the air tickets along with the following documents: receipts for accommodation payments, the conference registration fee, and the presentation report as stated in 8.3.
