Internatonal Student Activities

International Education program will not be completed unless cultural exchange is organized. Therefore, IRS at FGS offers ISA to all international students in collaboration with students unit there Thai student from different program /faculties in MU get together and formalized their activities bases on FGS regulation. Different activities include International Day, One Day Trip for Cultural Visit, Christmas or New Year Party, Volunteer Day etc.

International Student Community is a by weekly meeting group meeting is also available for all international student to facilitate your life adjustment and enhance relationship.

The following list of activities are organized by the IRS of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. We are designed to help you prepare yourselves in coming to the Mahidol University and settling down to the life in THAILAND.

Visa Matters

  • Visa Extension
    To extend your visa at the Thai immigration office, you need the following documents:
    1. Visa extension request form
    2. Valid passport and a copy of the page containing visa stamp and "Kingdom of Thailand label"
    3. 2 inch photo
    4. Mahidol University Letter obtained from IRS
    5. 1,900 BAHT for visa extension fee

  • Notification of staying longer than 90 days
    • Reporting can be done 7 days before or after the due dates appearing on the 90-day registration stub
    • Fine for not reporting is 2,000 BAHT
    • Anyone can do this reporting for you
    • Documents needed at the reporting step
      1. 90-Day notification application form
      2. Valid passport and a copy of the page containing stamp and "Kingdom of Thailand label"

  • Re-entry Visa
    If you hold a single entry visa and plan to spend your holidays (or other temporary travel) out of Thailand, you need to apply for a re-entry permit before your departure. Otherwise, your visa will no longer be valid !!!

  • How to get to the Immigration Bureau Offices
    Getting to the Immigration Bureau (Soi Suan Plu)
    By bus : Take bus Nrs. 22 , 62 or 67
    By Bangkok subway :
    Lumpini station is the closest subway station to the Bureau. Take the number 2 exit to Sathorn Road. Walk to a bus stop around 200 meters. Then take bus Nrs. 22, 62 or 67 bus to the Bureau.
    By Bangkok skytrain :
    Exit at Saladaeng station. Walk to a bus stop at
    • Chulalongkorn Hospital on Rama IV road. Take bus 67 or
    • Next to U- Chuliang Building. Take a red open pick-up bus (Sawngthaew).
    By car :
    Drive to South Sathorn Road (Thanon Sathon Tai). Turn left into Soi Suan Phlu. About 600 meters into the soi, the Bureau is on the left hand side, just after Thoongmahamake police station.
    Opening Hours : Mon - Fri 8.30 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. Closed on Sat, Sun and official holidays

Health Care

Mahidol University is one of a few universities in the world with 3 Faculties of Medicine providing professional medical treatment up to the quaternary care level for the public. Our staff and students are covered by the University health insurance plan, applicable for treatment at any of the University's three first-class hospitals: Siriraj Hospital on the Bangkok Noi Campus, or Ramathibodi Hospital or the Hospital for Tropical Diseases on the Phayathai Campus. Additional medical services are now available at the Golden Jubilee Medical Center on Salaya Campus. Specialized dental care is also available at the Dental Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry on Phayathai Campus. Students and staff should pay at the time of treatment and then ask for reimbursement later. Eight Student Health Centers staffed by nursing personnel, with scheduled visiting hours by medical doctors, offer treatment for basic medical problems free of charge at various faculties in the three Bangkok-area campuses.

  • Student Health Service
    There are two types of health insurance plan (HIP)
    • University HIP : An international student needs to comply with university HIP regulations by paying the dental examination annual fee of 100 BAHT in order to activate a dental record of the university student dental service system.
    • HIP for International Student : For HIP, The Faculty of Graduate Studies arranges a private health insurance plan in order to assure your well-being in case of emergency. The private heath insurance plan (AIA) is 1,300 BAHT per year, 350 per trimester.

    Eligibility : free of charge for minor or major health services on the National Drug List prescription

    Location : Salaya Activity Center Building

    Office Hours : Doctor 12.00 - 1.00 pm / 3.00 -4.30 pm / Nurse 8.00 am - 4.30 pm / Dental Health Care is also available

    Limitations : May be crowded, may have language barrier

  • Ramathibodi Student Health Service Center
    Eligibility : free of charge for minor or major health service on National Drug List prescription at Ramathibodi Hospital Student Health Service Center

    Location : First floor Emergency Wing

    Office Hours : Monday-Friday / 8.00 am - 5.00 pm / Emergency 24 hours, Dental Health Care 1-2 pm

    Limitations : May be crowded, may have language barrier

  • Siriraj Student Health Service Center
    Eligibility : free of charge for minor or major health service on National Drug List prescription

    Location : New OPD Building, 4th Floor, Room 437

    Office Hours : Doctor 12.00 - 1.00 pm / Nurse 9.00 am - 5.00 pm / Emergency 24 hours / Dental Health Care (Monday-Thursday 1-2 pm)

    Limitations : May be crowded, may have language barrier

  • Important Information
    To extend your visa at the Thai immigration office, you need the following documents:
    1. Bring the physical exam certificate from certify Thai accredited hospital to FGS for the student health service.
    2. A student ID card is needed to get health service access
    3. Prescriptions on the national drug list are free; other drugs need to be purchased by the student and then reimbursed (if approved) via the Faculty of Graduate Studies Student Affairs Section
    4. The amount of the health care expense covered by the university is 30,000 BAHT. If the expense exceeds this amount, a letter from the program requesting approval for the extra amount is needed and it will be approved on a case-by-case basis from the office of the Vice President of Student Affairs. The Faculty of Graduate Studies is responsible for endorsement and processing the request

  • Private Health Insurance Plan
    1,300 BAHT per year, 350 BAHT per three months Health Service from the other private hospital / clinics
    Location : Thonburi Hospital: Nearby student residences such as for those who are in Salaya Campus. Phayathai Hospital for those who are in the Rajavithi Campus area.

    Office Hours : Emergency 24 hours

    Limitations : Covers only emergency care, may not cover all expenses and needs reimbursement

    Reimbursement : Take the receipt attached to a medical certificate submitted to the Student Services Affair to process your reimbursement.

Sports and Recreation / Membership

Mahidol University offers a wide range of modern and well-equipped sport facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports at all campuses, including swimming pools, basketball and tennis courts and indoor gymnasiums. At Salaya Campus in particular, the College of Sports Science and Technology has 5 swimming pools (one olympic-sized) and a fitness center with weight training equipment, sauna and aerobics available for use. Additional sports facilities include tennis courts, petanque courts, soccer fields and large indoor stadiums for basketball, volleyball and other indoor sports. Students are encouraged to take part in both competitive sports and physical exercise.

Salaya Campus
The College of Sports Science and Technology provides sports facilities and services as follows.

  1. 5 swimming pools: a jumping pool, a 50x25 m Olympic Sized pool, a 25x25m training pool, a rehabilitation pool and a children's pool
  2. A sauna room
  3. A fitness center
  4. A weight training room
  5. An aerobic dance room
  6. Health dance sessions
  7. Computerized fitness tests
With such facilities, the College of Sports Science and Technology can promote and support the exercise and sports activities for the university's staff, students and people from nearby communities. For instance, the college runs health dance, jogging, and aerobic dance programs which is open to the public.

Shuttle Bus

A shuttle bus service between the 3 campuses (Salaya Campus, Phayathai Campus and Bangkok Noi Campus) is available for Mahidol University students. Students can use this shuttle free of charge.

Banking

Getting a bank account:
The IRS can issue a supporting letter for you to open a savings account with or without the ATM card

To open a bank account you need a copy of your passport. Please note that you need the original document when opening a new account.

Banks are usually open 08:30 -15:30 hours daily, but are closed on weekends and on public holidays. There are some banks in department stores that are open until 8 pm and some of these are even open on weekends.
