ABSTRACT
This study analyzes the case of homicide 僕inked suicide in Thai society. The study looks at the details of demographic characteristics, contextual incidents, relationships between the offender and the victim, and methods as well as the causes of homicide 僕inked suicide. The data are obtained from eight Thai daily newspapers during January 1979 through December 1999, reported by the Thairath Information Center. The offences in this study are 467 cases, consisting of 378 males, and 87 females. The victims are drawn from 603 cases, consisting of 203 males, and 400 females. The structured questionnaire form is used to collect the data. The data is analyzed by using SPSS program. The results show that the offenders are comprised of a higher number of males than females. The most frequent age group is between 21 and 30 years. Most offenders are married, and unskilled workers. The victims are comprised of a slightly higher proportion of females to males. The most frequent age group is between 21 and 30 years, married. The majority of homicide 僕inked suicide incidents occur in the central region. Most of the homicide 僕inked suicides take place inside the house of both the offender and the victim. The most common time is daytime, on Sunday, and during the rainy season in May. Shooting is the most common method. The commonest type of homicide 僕inked suicide is spousal or consortia killing, with the man killing his wife. Another common type is killing of the children by their fathers or their mothers. The mother is the most common offender for the familial type. The dominant cause of homicide-linked suicide is amorous jealousy or paranoia. This research suggests that the government should have certain policies to control firearms, such as limiting licensces for firearms and educating licensce holders about gun using, maintenance and the appropriate compliance to the licensces.
