Schedule of GRID Courses for graduate students who would like to qualify for the English Competence Standards and English Competence Assessment Criteria of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University 1st June – 21st June 2016.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University offers English classes for Graduate Studies of Mahidol University who are interested in taking the English Course to comply with the English Proficiency Standards from 1st June – 21st June 2016.

  • course booking : 12th – 20th April 2016
    (Please kindly complete course booking for GRID Course by our online E-registration function on the left Course Booking)

  • Announcement of Eligible Students : 27th April 2016

  • Registration (E-Registration) : 2nd - 6th May 2016

  • Last payment due date : 20th May 2016

 Interested students can apply for the mentioned course from now on to 12th – 20th April 2016

Doctoral Degree Student

In the case where a doctoral degree student has an IELTS score lower than 5.0 or a TOEFL iBT score lower than 61 or a TOEFL ITP score lower than 500, the student must take the following course(s) :

SCORE COURSE TO BE TAKEN

3.4.1 If a student has

  • TOEFL ITP score: 470 - 499 or
  • TOEFL IBT score: 52 - 60  or
  • IELTS score at 4.5

The student must take

  • GRID 532 Thesis Writing in Physical Sciences and Biosciences or
  • GRID 533 Thesis Writing in Social Sciences and Humanities

3.4.2 If a student has

  • TOEFL ITP score: 435 - 469 or
  • TOEFL IBT score: 41 - 51  or
  • IELTS score at 4

The student must take

  • GRID 531English Academic Writing II and
  • GRID 532 Thesis Writing in Physical Sciences and Biosciences or
  • GRID 533 Thesis Writing in Social Sciences and Humanities
    (Two courses in total)

3.4.3 If a student has

  • TOEFL ITP score: 400 - 434 or
  • TOEFL iBT score: 32 - 40  or
  • IELTS score at  3.0 - 3.5

The student must take

  • GRID 530 English Academic Writing I and
  • GRID 531 English Academic Writing II and
  • GRID 532 Thesis Writing in Physical Sciences and Biosciences or
  • GRID 533 Thesis Writing in Social Sciences and Humanities
    (Three courses in total)
Remark: The student must pass the course(s) prior to examination on the defense of thesis.

 

Master's Degree Student

In the case that a student has an IELTS score lower than 5.0 or a TOEFL iBT score lower than 54 or a TOEFL ITP score lower than 480 or an MU Test score of lower than 45, the student must take the following course (s) :

SCORE COURSE TO BE TAKEN

3.5.1 A student who has

  • an IELTS score at 4 or
  • a TOEFL iBT score of 41-51 or
  • a TOEFL ITP score of 435-479 or
  • an MU Test score of 38-44

The student must take
Group 1: GRID 515 Speaking and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate Studies or

Group 2: GRID 531 English Academic Writing II The student must pass the aforementioned course before the examination of their thesis defense.

3.5.2 A student who has

  • an IELTS score at 3-3.5 or
  • a TOEFL IBT score of 32-40 or
  • a TOEFL ITP score of 400-434 or
  • an MU Test score of 31-37

The student must take
Group 1:   GRID 514 Reading and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate Studies and  GRID 515 Speaking and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate Studies  or

Group 2:  GRID 530 English Academic Writing I and GRID 531 English Academic Writing II  (two courses in total).                                                                                    
The student must pass the aforementioned courses before the examination of their thesis defense.

3.5.3 A student who has

  • an IELTS score below than 3or
  • a TOEFL IBT score below than 32 or
  • a TOEFL ITP score below than 400 or
  • an MU Test score below than  31

The student must take
Group 1:  GRID 517 Essential English Grammar for Graduate Studies and
GRID 514 Reading and Writing in Academic  Context for Graduate Studies and
GRID 515 Speaking and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate  Studies or

Group 2: GRID 517 Essential English Grammar for Graduate Studies and
GRID 530 English Academic Writing I and
GRID 531 English Academic Writing II and either
           (three courses in total).
The student must pass the aforementioned courses before the examination of their thesis defense.

Score of Master degree, Diploma Program and Higher Diploma Program student who have student ID no. 59xxxxx onwards.

SCORE COURSE TO BE TAKEN

3.5.1 A student who has

  • an IELTS score at 4.5 or
  • a TOEFL iBT score of 52-53 or
  • a TOEFL ITP score of 470-479 or
  • an MU GRAD TEST score of 52-59

The student must take
Group 1: GRID 516 Thesis Writing for Graduate Studies or                                       

Group 2: GRID 532 Thesis Writing in Physical Sciences and Biosciences or GRID 533 Thesis Writing in Social Sciences and Humanities

The student must pass the aforementioned course before the examination of their thesis defense.

3.5.2 A student who has

  • an IELTS score at 4 or
  • a TOEFL IBT score of 41-51 or
  • a TOEFL ITP score of 435-469 or
  • an  MU GRAD TEST score of 44-51

 

The student must take
Group 1:  GRID 515 Speaking and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate Studies  and GRID 516 Thesis Writing for Graduate Studies or
Group 2:  GRID 531 English Academic Writing II  and either                     

GRID 532 Thesis Writing in Physical Sciences and Biosciences or              

GRID 533 Thesis Writing in Social Sciences and Humanities (two courses in total)

The student must pass the aforementioned courses before the examination of their thesis defense.                                                                         

3.5.3 A student who has

  • an IELTS score below than 3-3.5 or
  • a TOEFL IBT score below than 32-40 or
  • a TOEFL ITP score below than 400-434 or
  • an  MU GRAD TEST  score of  36-43

The student must take
Group 1: GRID 514 Reading and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate Studies and GRID 515 Speaking and Writing in Academic Context for Graduate  Studies           

GRID 516 Thesis Writing for Graduate Studies or
Group 2: GRID 530 English Academic Writing I and GRID 531 English Academic Writing II  and either GRID 532 Thesis Writing in Physical Sciences and Biosciences or GRID 533 Thesis Writing in Social Sciences and Humanities (three courses in total).

The student must pass the aforementioned courses before the examination of their thesis defense.

  1. The number of students in each class will be limited; however, the mentioned classes depend on student demand.
  2. Registration fee:
    1. GRID 530, GRID 531, GRID 532, GRID 533and GRID 537: 4,000 Baht per credit (12,000 Baht per course)
